Introduction to 3D Visualization of GIS Data

This 1-day course is an introduction to the world of 3D Visualization within the world of GIS. ESRI ArcView and ArcScene will be emphasized, as well as sampling of the plethora of 3D visualization software available. It is designed for the experienced GIS user who wants to get started using 3D visualization.

Topics covered

  • Hardware requirements
  • Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and Triangulated Irregular Networks (TINs)
  • 2 1/2 D visualization (shaded relief, viewshed, slope, aspect, etc.)
  • Extruding 2D features using attributes to create 3D features
  • Draping imagery
  • Animated "fly" through's

Note:

Familiarity with ArcView is assumed. This class is intended for experienced GIS users.
