Description:
Abstract:
This data set is derived from an ARC/INFO network coverage produced by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (LNTNT100) representing a Landnet based on the Public Land Survey System in Wisconsin. The Landnet coverage includes polygon, line, and node attributes, and is derived from the U.S. Geological Survey Digital Line Graphs at 1:100,000 scale. Sections bordering the Great Lakes in Wisconsin (Lakes Michigan and Superior) were reselected from the DNR PLSS Land Net.

Purpose:
The coastal sections were extracted to provide a graphic representation on which the attributes of coastal recession and bluff height could be displayed. The spatial data are used for display and mapping purposes where an intermediate- scale representation of the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) is needed. The coverage also provides a geographic framework to consistently map the location of land parcels or other features georeferenced by PLSS description.

The attributes for recession rates were extracted from the Coastal Processes Workbook: Evaluating the Risks of Flooding and Erosion for Great Lakes Coastal Property by J. Phillip Keillor and Allen H. Miller of the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute. (Report WIS-SG-87-431).
