This coverage includes and extends somewhat beyond the boundaries of the federal land and Wildcat Mountain State Park. Karen Agee and Eric Epstein of the Wisconsin DNR Bureau of Endangered Resources interpreted land cover for the region based on 1992 National Air Photo Program (NAPP) 1:40,000 vertical aerial photographs (flown May 7, 1992). The black-and-white contact prints were enlarged to 1:10,000 to aid in the interpretation.

Fifteen classes of land cover were delineated on the enlarged aerial photos. Linework from the aerial photos was digitized directly into a coverage without correction for displacement or tilt. Two techniques were used to minimize and distribute the error. A minimum of ten dispersed control points were used for each photograph. Land cover boundaries were rubbersheeted to roads where the two were coincident.
