Farmland Priority Zones are substantial tracts of agricultural land where if preserved could help reduce land use conflicts and preserve amenities associated with rural space.  The zones would also serve as target areas for benefits intended to help farm families, such as county funding.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) can be utilized to help identify and map farmland priority zones.  The University of Wisconsin-Madison, LICGF has constructed a model that outlines the procedures for mapping FPZs.
